Turkey & Syria Earthquakes
Donate to UMCOR
A 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck southern Turkey at 4:17 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 6, 2023, the most powerful earthquake recorded since 1939. In the hours that followed, at least 78 aftershocks were reported, followed by a second earthquake of 7.5 magnitude. Tens of thousands of people have been killed, and responders are still recovering victims.
The earthquake also heavily impacted northwest Syria, where 4.1 million people depend on humanitarian assistance. The majority are women and children. At this time, Syrian communities are simultaneously facing an ongoing cholera outbreak and extreme winter weather events, including heavy rain and snow. The humanitarian response is overstretched due to the devastation and cold weather.
If you would like to donate to help this area through UMCOR, make your contribution to Antioch UMC and put UMCOR Advance 901670 in the memo.

Ash Wednesday Services at Gainesville First UMC
Wednesday, March 2
12pm Chapel &
6pm Sanctuary & livestreaming at gfumc.com
Gainesville First UMC
Traditionally, this service of worship that marks the beginning of Lent is a reflection on our mortality and a call to repentance as we prepare our hearts for the celebration of Easter. Perhaps in this year more than any other in recent memory, we are all too aware of our mortality and for many our hearts are heavy with grief. So let us remember that while the ash mark we receive is stark, it is made in the form of a cross and reminds us of the love and grace offered to each one of us as we repent and return to God.
There will be a lunch following the 12pm service. Menu: Vegetable soup/broccoli cheese soup, turkey on croissant with lettuce and tomato, chips, & cookies. $5 suggested donation.
